PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT.
Feral swine (wild pigs, boars or feral hogs) are a destructive, invasive species that are prevalent in the United States and Canada. Their destructive behavior cause major damage and risk to:
Feral swine cost BILLIONS of dollars each year in damages and control costs. The species damages native ecosystems, preys on and compete with native wildlife and spreads diseases. Federal, State, Provincial, local and territorial agencies are working together to manage this threat and mitigate their impact.
Reported sightings are an essential part to understanding the distributions and behaviors of feral swine.
The more sightings reported and verified, the more data available for anyone developing management plans to decrease the damage and disease threats of feral swine.
The Squeal on Pigs! app allows users to quickly and easily report sightings on a mobile device with the capability to include photos, location and additional information.
Reports are verified by qualified experts before being made accessible to Squeal on Pigs! partners.

The National Feral Swine Damage Management Program was created in 2014 by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) in response to the damage and disease threats posed by feral swine populations in the United States.
The overall objective of the program is to manage the damage inflicted by feral swine using an integrated approach to feral swine damage management issues, incorporating the latest scientific research findings, improvements in field tactics, and communication and outreach tools.
Initiated in 2021, Canada’s Invasive Wild Pig Strategy was developed collaboratively with partners across Canada in response to the significant threat that invasive wild pig populations pose to Canada’s environment, agriculture industry, natural habitats and native species. This strategy recognizes that invasive wild pigs in Canada are a clear example of a One Health issue affecting multiple facets of our society and therefore requires a “team effort”, involving multiple partners, disciplines, and jurisdictions to successfully manage the issue.
This strategy is intended to be a living document to guide Canada’s Invasive Wild Pig Leadership Group, comprised of representatives from multiple sectors, jurisdictions and regions across Canada. The Leadership Group serves as a focal point for strategic collaboration and action and is tasked with directing the implementation of the goals, actions and objectives of the strategy through efforts to enhance the understanding of problem, educate on best management practices, coordinate efforts across regions, and systematically track progress towards shared goals.
